Background:
The SCIMITAR-SA project aims to address tobacco dependence among individuals with Severe Mental Illness (SMI) in Bangladesh. Advisors/Counselors will provide specialized tobacco cessation support tailored for patients attending mental health services.
Number of Positions: 2 (1 based at NIMH, Dhaka and 1 based at TMSS, Bogra)
Duration: 6 months
Working Days: 6 days per week
Reports to: SCIMITAR-SA Trial Coordinator – ARK Foundation and Respective Facility Manager
- Deliver motivational and behavioural support for tobacco cessation using patient friendly flipbooks
- Regularly monitor patient progress, update records, and adjust interventions accordingly.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in electronic patient records.
- Collaborate closely with hospital staff, ensuring integrated and holistic patient care.
- Manage the logistics for tobacco cessation sessions, coordinate effectively with the facility staff, ensuring smooth operation and preparedness of facilities.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare providers, addressing any barriers to patient understanding and support.
- Contribute to the ongoing evaluation and quality assurance of the tobacco cessation service through data collection, audits, and reporting.
- Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Work
- Previous experience working in mental health or related healthcare settings.
- Knowledge of tobacco-related health issues and evidence-based cessation interventions.
- Experience providing counseling or support services on a one-to-one or group basis is desirable.
- Strong communication skills in English and Bangla, both written and verbal.
- Good IT skills and familiarity with electronic data recording systems.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks effectively.
- Approachable, empathetic, and enthusiastic with strong motivational skills.
Salary: 30,000- 35000, depending on the qualification and experience.
