The overall long-term aim of this research programme is to improve health outcomes and quality of life for people with depression and tuberculosis in South Asia. This study is aimed carring out the preliminary work for a future trial to evaluate depression care integrated with tuberculosis services. The specific objectives are:
- To understand the facilitators and barriers to detecting and treating depression in tuberculosis
- To develop, using codesign, culture- and context-appropriate approaches to case finding and treatment for depression integrated with tuberculosis care (including pathways and materials) that can be delivered by non -mental health specialists- the ‘TB-D’ intervention.
- To test the feasibility of case finding for depression in tuberculosis services (in terms of coverage and acceptability to patients and healthcare staff).
- To develop a protocol for a randomised controlled trial to evaluate the ‘TB-D’ intervention.
