Strategic purchasing holds immense potential to bridge service gaps in Bangladesh’s urban primary health care. To explore this pathway, ARK Foundation, in collaboration with the Planning and Research wing of Directorate General of Health Services, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, hosted a two-day Policy Dialogue on ‘Aligning Outsourcing with Strategic Purchasing in Urban Health Care.’
The dialogue brought together high-level officials from DGHS, DGFP, and local government, alongside development partners, academicians, and public health experts. Chaired by Dr. Afreena Mahmood, Director (Planning and Research), DGHS, and moderated by Dr. Aminul Hasan, Former Director (Hospitals & Clinics), DGHS the event created a rich platform for discussion.
Key deliberations focused on service scope, quality standards, payment mechanisms, and monitoring frameworks—paving the way for MoHFW to strengthen equitable, accountable, and resilient urban health systems.
